Bellingham Tiny Homes
The idea for the Tiny House started in the fall of 2017 as a fundraiser for the Kulshan Community Land Trust (KCLT). Led by the KCLT Tiny House Committee, the construction of the house involved generous donations from local contractors including CAZ Energy Services, A1 Builders, Favinger Plumbing, Sims Masonry, West Coast Windows, Kent Chasson Cabinets, Carla Lee, and Sound Habitats Ecological Design.
The foundation of the Tiny House is a brand new 20 ft, 14,000 lb capacity Load Trail trailer. The floors, walls, and ceilings are framed with 2×4 and 2×6. The bathroom has a shower and a porcelain toilet and sink. The kitchen has two large cabinets with stone countertops, a sink, a propane water heater, and outlets ready for a small electric cooker and mini-fridge.
The sleeping loft is big enough for a queen-sized mattress, and the storage loft fits a small person who doesn’t roll around very much, or a bunch of boxes and books. There are large, double pane windows throughout the home.
Power is provided though a 30-amp circuit box, and a BBQ sized propane tank. The water and sewer in the bath and kitchen are plumbed in and ready to be connected to standard services.
The Tiny House has thick fiberglass batts under the floor and spray foam in the walls and ceiling. It is heated with a direct vent propane wall heater, vented out through the roof.
On the outside, the Tiny House has a covered porch with a railing, and a set of rain catchment barrels attached to the gutter downspout on the side of the house. The roof protected with composite shingles, and the siding is durable Hardiplank.
